Incident at the Malibu Pier

 

One day last year (fall or summer?), I took a drive out to Malibu Pier. I hadn't been out there on the pier since the recent renovations. I'd driven by countless times, drank and dined at the Malibu Inn, and even wandered on Surfrider Beach and under the pier, but not ON it for some time. After I parked, I saw a bunch of people and lifeguards massing together near the shore line. I wondered what the heck was going on?
