2009 Los Angeles Film Festival is Over - Westwood
Old San Pedro Jail - Funeral Limo - Tinted Glass
This is the San Pedro Municipal Building, also known as the "San Pedro City Hall." Construction began in 1927 and completed the fall 1928. This seven-story Beaux Arts edifice has both Neoclassical and Baroque characteristics. It was built by the Charles W. Pettifer Construction Company under the supervision of Charles O. Brittain of the City of Los Angeles Construction Dept. At 112 feet high, it is the tallest and one of the most recognizable structures in San Pedro. It is built of steel frame, brick and molded stone. The 7th floor housed an old jail that was nicknamed, "7th Heaven." The 6th floor housed a beautiful wood paneled courtroom. A fire station occupied the ground floor basement, but was converted to a garage. The building has recently been renovated and retrofitted. Today, many L.A. City entities as well as the Councilperson of the 15th District occupy many of the offices.

Death of Michael Jackson - UCLA
The "King of Pop" has died. Michael Jackson is dead at fifty. This was the scene outside UCLA Reagan Medical Center in Westwood, Los Angeles, California on Thursday, June 25, 2009 where Michael Jackson's body was taken in a failed effort to revive him. His fans flocked to the scene where they exhibited their grief, their joy, their love for their fallen hero. As would be expected, the press, both professional and amateur, showed up to record the event. The crowd consisted of several colorful and eccentric personalities eager to share themselves with posterity.

Iranian-Americans Protest in Westwood
On Sunday, June 14th 2009, I was woken up from my late-morning slumber to the sound of horns honking nearby. I knew this could only mean that some folks were protesting on the corner of Wilshire and Veteran. The horns were from cars driving past the bus stop next to the Federal Building. They were responding in approval of whatever protest banners were being waved at them from the protestors lined up along the curb. I got up and had coffee. The horns continued. Curiosity descended like an angel from heaven and possessed me. I grabbed my camera and headed out. Turns out - the Iranian-Americans, many from the local Westwood neighborhood (and UCLA of course), were protesting the recent election in Iran. By the time I arrived, people were starting to leave, but I could still feel the enthusiasm of the protestors. They were doing their part for their homeland and their culture. There was no violence. No one got hurt. Nobody got arrested. Voices were heard and a statement made. That's the beauty of NON-VIOLENT PROTEST and, I suppose, the ideals of Democracy. These people took time out of their busy lives and spent it on something postive. That's a good thing.

Santa Monica's Big Blue Buses - You Tube
I love the Santa Monica Bus system. The drivers are friendly and helpful. They do a difficult job very well. I always feel safe aboard the Big Blue Bus. Some of these You Tube videos I found might seem critical of them, but these are just the humorous exceptions to their rule of excellence.
